In early July 2026, 2026 authorities in Guanajuato reported the discovery of unidentified bodies in two neighbourhoods, launching local investigations. Later that month, month three additional victims were found on a highway in Oaxaca near Santa Catarina Jiquilá. The victims showed injuries from a short‑bladed weapon and a white SEAT Ibiza was recovered at the scene. A multidisciplinary team from the state attorney‑general’s office opened a qualified homicide probe, employing forensic and scientific protocols. On 29 July 2026 the Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca formally opened the qualified homicide investigation, reiterating the involvement of specialists from the Institute of Forensic Services, the Agency of State Investigations and the Regional Vice‑Prosecutor’s Office, and confirming the victims remained unidentified and the presence of the SEAT Ibiza. On 30 July 2026, 2026 investigators located the same three bodies on the “El Portillo” stretch of the highway (km 13+200) near Santa María Amialtepec, confirming they were tied with metal handcuffs and suffered injuries from a short‑blunt weapon. The white SEAT Ibiza was also present. The Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca (FGEO) FGEO reaffirmed the case as a qualified homicide with advantage, deploying specialists from the Instituto de Servicios Periciales, the Agencia Estatal de Investigaciones and the Regional Vice‑Prosecutor’s Office.
