HBO Max Carlota series production

HBO Max released the first official images of its upcoming historical drama *Carlota*, a ten‑episode series that dramatizes the life of Empress Carlota of Belgium, the last monarch of the Second Mexican Empire.

The series stars Mexican pop star Belinda as the Empress and Spanish actor Jaime Lorente as Emperor Maximilian, with supporting roles for Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Mabel Cadena, Bárbara de Regil, Sebastián Zurita and others. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the show was filmed over 17 weeks at more than 40 locations across Latin America and Europe, employing around 1,300‑1,370 extras, musicians, dancers and stunt performers.

The production emphasizes a contemporary visual style while aiming to highlight Carlota’s political agency and personal ambitions. Social media reaction has been strong, praising Belinda’s transformation but also sparking debate over her casting. The series is slated for release in late 2026 or early 2027, exclusive to HBO Max.
