Food poisoning outbreaks in Japan

Overview

In Fukui City, a Salmonella outbreak at the Kobe Cook World Buffet resulted in 76 people reporting symptoms, including vomiting and fever, between August 2 and August 4. Of those affected, 23 individuals required hospitalization. Salmonella was detected in the stool of eight patients and four restaurant employees. Consequently, the restaurant was ordered to suspend operations for two days for disinfection, and Fukui Prefecture issued its first food poisoning advisory since April 2023.

By late August, food poisoning incidents continued in other regions. Kumamoto Prefecture issued its third food poisoning warning due to sustained high temperatures, recording 6 cases involving 162 people. Additionally, in Miyazaki Prefecture, a Campylobacter outbreak was confirmed at the Toriyasan restaurant in Hyuga City after individuals consumed undercooked chicken liver. The establishment was ordered to suspend operations for three days.
