AI integration in South Korean healthcare

South Korean medical institutions and private sector entities are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into healthcare services.

In early September 2026, research initiatives such as the ‘Korean ARPA-H Project’ were highlighted. Under the ‘BCI-INSIDE-OUT’ initiative, Gachon University is developing a multimodal foundation model to monitor elderly depression by integrating EEG, acoustic, and biometric data. This research, which includes the development of portable EEG devices for home use, is scheduled to run through 2030 with an 18 billion won government investment. Concurrently, Samsung Medical Center is leading the ‘AI Caregivers’ sub-project to build a multimodal AI foundation model for elderly mental health (EMH-MFM). This platform aims to provide real-time interventions via biofeedback, digital therapeutics, and AI care robots to shift management toward proactive prevention.

Additionally, partnerships between Chaum, LG CNS, and CHA Healthcare are establishing AI-powered health screening centers. Utilizing an AI agent developed by LG CNS, these centers integrate CRM and EMR systems to automate administrative tasks, such as writing consultation records and managing follow-up schedules. The system also analyzes medical histories to suggest diagnostic tests and provides real-time AI translation services to assist international patients, who comprise approximately 30% of the center’s clientele.
