Police in Taiwan have been providing various forms of assistance to elderly citizens experiencing disorientation, health issues, or lost property. Initial reports highlighted officers in Taipei’s Wenshan District using surveillance footage to help an elderly man locate a scooter that had been misplaced during heavy rain. Subsequent incidents across multiple regions, including Taipei, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Chiayi City, involved officers assisting elderly individuals with memory loss, dementia, or physical exhaustion. These interventions included reuniting wandering citizens with their families, providing food and water to those in distress, and resolving reports of misplaced vehicles. Recent incidents in Kaohsiung and Taichung further illustrate these challenges. In Kaohsiung, officers from the Qianzhen Precinct assisted an elderly man in his 80s who became lost near Zhenhai Road after visiting relatives, eventually contacting his son to arrange for his safe return. In Taichung’s Qingshui District, an 80-year-old man accidentally rode an electric mobility scooter onto an elevated highway. After the device ran out of power on a bridge, police and a logistics driver worked together to transport the man and his scooter safely back to his residence. Following this event, authorities reminded the public that mobility scooters are classified as pedestrian aids and must not be operated on prohibited high-speed roadways. In Yilan County, police coordinated with fire departments to transport an exhausted elderly woman with a waist injury to a hospital. In Changhua County, officers used landmarks to locate and transport a lost senior citizen home. In response to these recurring events, authorities have advised families to monitor elderly relatives closely and suggested using contact information on clothing or anti-lost bracelets to assist in future emergencies.
