Russia-Ukraine conflict escalation

Overview

Russian military operations in Ukraine have focused on territorial gains and the disruption of critical infrastructure. Earlier reports indicated that Russian forces captured seven settlements within a single week and intercepted nearly 6,000 Ukrainian drones. During this period, strikes targeted port infrastructure in the Odesa region, which officials stated were intended to reduce export revenues and disrupt military supplies.

Following these developments, the intensity of strikes on energy infrastructure increased. A massive overnight assault involving two Zircon hypersonic missiles and 174 unmanned aerial vehicles caused widespread damage. In the Odesa region, the attacks left over 178,000 households without electricity, affecting districts such as Peresypskyi and Prymorskyi. While technicians worked to restore power, the strikes also resulted in civilian casualties, including ten injuries in Odesa city following a hit on an 11-story building.
