Seismic activity in Italy

Overview

In September 2026, seismic activity was recorded in different regions of Italy.

On September 12, a magnitude 2.4 earthquake occurred near Norcia in the Umbria region. The tremor, which originated at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, was classified as a low-intensity event by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) with no reported damage.

On September 25, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake struck near Chiusi della Verna in Tuscany. This event occurred at a depth of 6 kilometers. While residents reported hearing a “slight boom,” the INGV noted the tremor was characteristic of normal seismic activity in the Apennines, and no injuries or damage were reported.
