České dráhy regional rail modernization
Overview
České dráhy is undergoing service transitions and fleet modernizations across various Czech regional rail lines.
In the Pardubice Region, the authorities have selected České dráhy to replace Leo Express on regional lines in the Orlicko-Ústí area beginning at the end of 2029. This transition includes plans to deploy new battery-powered trains (BEMU) on non-electrified sections, supported by a European grant through the TRANSGov program. The contract is expected to run from the 2029/2030 schedule through 2033/2034.
Separately, on the Čáslav–Třemošnice line, České dráhy has retired the Class 810 railcars, replacing them with Regionova motor units to provide increased seating, more space, and barrier-free access for wheelchair users. This move is part of a broader effort by the railway and the Central Bohemian Region to phase out Class 810 railcars on branch lines in favor of more modern units.
