Criminal sentencing in Mexico
Overview
In the State of Mexico, two individuals, Víctor Hugo Zavala Jiménez and Víctor Manuel Pérez Cruz, were sentenced to 48 years and nine months in prison for robbery resulting in death.
The conviction stems from a December 2024 incident on the La Marquesa-Xalatlaco highway near San Isidro Tehuantepec. Investigators determined that the defendants used two vehicles to block a gray Nissan carrying seven passengers. During the confrontation, Zavala Jiménez fired a weapon at the vehicle to force it to stop. The attackers compelled the occupants to kneel at the roadside before fleeing in the victim's vehicle. One victim later died in a hospital from gunshot wounds.
