Traffic accidents in Cyprus

Overview

Police in Cyprus have reported several traffic accidents involving negligence and impaired driving. On the Nicosia Northern Ring Road and the Famagusta-Nicosia main road, two separate incidents involving drivers with 97 mg/dl of alcohol in their systems resulted in vehicles striking a lighting pole and an earth embankment, respectively. No injuries were reported in those cases, and legal action has been initiated against both drivers.

A separate collision in Argaka, Paphos, resulted in six pedestrians being injured, including two children and a pregnant woman. Following the initial impact, the driver continued for approximately 500 meters before crashing into a concrete ditch. The victims were transported to Paphos General Hospital, where they were reported to be out of danger, though three remained under observation. The driver was arrested after a preliminary alcohol test yielded a positive result.

Additionally, a third accident occurred on the Nicosia Northern Ring Road near the Hamitköy roundabout. A driver struck a parked vehicle on the shoulder, causing injuries to the driver of the stationary car. The injured individual was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital for treatment.
