Road accidents in Kenya

Overview

Road accidents in Kenya have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries across different regions. In September, a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on Nairobi’s Kangundo Road killed three people. This incident occurred amidst a broader trend of rising road fatalities in the country, with officials noting that more than 4,000 people are killed annually due to factors such as improper overtaking, tire bursts, and loss of vehicle control.

By October, further significant accidents were reported. In Homa Bay County, a collision between two 18-seater matatus at Maembe Mbili resulted in four deaths and 21 injuries. Other incidents included a collision between a bus and a lorry on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, as well as a crash involving an Easy Coach bus and a matatu on the Kisii-Keroka road, which required emergency responders to rescue trapped passengers.
