US Rural Health Transformation Program funding
Overview
The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) is deploying federal grants to address healthcare workforce shortages and improve access in rural American communities.
Initial deployments included approximately $169.5 million for 250 projects across 52 rural counties in Colorado to support maternal health and workforce sustainability, alongside nearly $199.5 million in West Virginia to expand nursing education capacity.
As the program progressed, $4 billion of a planned $10 billion for the first year was allocated. Workforce initiatives across 34 states received $651 million of these funds. Notable allocations include $65.7 million for California and over $6.35 million for Northern Arizona University to train healthcare workers for rural, Tribal, and medically underserved populations.
