60th Feria de la Chinita in Maracaibo
Overview
Maracaibo is preparing for the 60th anniversary of the Feria Internacional de la Chinita and religious celebrations honoring the Virgin of Chiquinquirá.
Initial preparations included the announcement of the ‘Maracaibo Elige la Gaita del Año 2026’ festival and plans for energy-efficient lighting along Avenida Bella Vista. To manage the festivities, Governor Luis Caldera established an expanded protocol team to oversee security, transport, and logistics.
As the event approaches, the Archdiocese of Maracaibo and the Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá have released a schedule centered on themes of “sobriety, solidarity, and faith” following national earthquakes in June 2026. Planned activities include the blessing of the Virgin’s mantles and a 16-day procession across Lake Maracaibo visiting 15 towns. Concurrently, the Zulia Governor’s Office is rehabilitating roads in Maracaibo’s historic center, applying approximately 6,000 tons of asphalt to prepare for the official start of the fair.
