The 64th New York Film Festival, running from September 25 to October 12, has released comprehensive programming details across its Main Slate, Spotlight, Currents, and Talks sections. The Main Slate features 32 films, including the opening night drama ‘Paper Tiger’ by James Gray, starring Adam Driver and Miles Teller. Tony Gilroy’s ‘Behemoth!’ starring Pedro Pascal serves as the centerpiece gala, while Ava DuVernay’s documentary ‘14th’ will close the festival. Other notable Main Slate entries include works by Pedro Almodóvar, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Andrew Haigh, and Mike Leigh. The Spotlight lineup includes Tom McCarthy’s ‘A Statement,’ an ensemble film set in 1980 Florida regarding CO2 emissions, and Jonathan Glazer’s documentary ‘Joy of Joys,’ a project described as ‘by children, for children’ featuring footage from conflict zones like Gaza and Ukraine. Other Spotlight films include Takashi Yamazaki’s ‘Godzilla Minus Zero,’ Werner Herzog’s ‘Bucking Fastard,’ and Cristian Mungiu’s ‘Fjord.’ The Currents section, organized by Film at Lincoln Center, focuses on international and experimental cinema with 15 features and 28 shorts. Highlights include the world premiere of Tala Hadid’s ‘Bardi’ and a world premiere restoration of Fred Camper’s ‘Suicide Note.’ Complementing the screenings, the ‘Talks’ ~~program~~ program, hosted by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex, will feature dialogues such as a conversation between Pedro Almodóvar and Sofia Coppola, and James Gray in conversation with Martin Scorsese. The festival will also host the sixth annual Amos Vogel Lecture, delivered by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi. The Deep Focus Talks will host directors including Lee Chang-dong, Mike Leigh, and Valeska Grisebach. Additionally, Marine Atlan’s ‘La Gradiva,’ winner of the Grand Prize at the 2026 Cannes Critics’ Week, will make its U.S. premiere on September 27.
