68th Ariel Awards ceremony in Mexico

Overview

The 68th Ariel Awards, organized by the Mexican Academy of Arts and Sciences Cinematographic (AMACC), were held on October 3 at the Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City. The film ‘En el camino’, directed by David Pablos, was the primary winner of the ceremony, securing six awards including Best Picture, Best Director (shared with Pablo Pérez Lombardini for ‘La reserva’), Best Actor (Osvaldo Sánchez), Best Supporting Actor (Mariano López Sosa), Best Newcomer (Víctor Miguel Prieto Simental), and Best Cinematography (Ximena Amann).

‘En el camino’ depicts a romance between a young person and a truck driver in northwest Mexico. The film had previously been selected by the AMACC to represent Mexico in the race for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film following its run at festivals such as Venice.

Other winners at the event included Diana Sedano for Best Actress for her role in ‘Juana’ and ‘Soy Frankelda’ for Best Animated Feature. The ceremony, which marked the 80th anniversary of the AMACC, also honored Rosita Arenas and Demetrio Bilbatúa with the Ariel de Oro for their lifelong contributions to Mexican cinema.
