Abuse and exploitation of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia

Overview

Reports have emerged regarding the exploitation and abuse of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. Amnesty International documented systematic overwork, sexual assault, and confinement experienced by Filipino domestic workers in private households, noting wages as low as $400 a month.

In a separate instance involving human trafficking, a syndicate lured a victim to Saudi Arabia with false promises of restaurant employment. After being held captive and subjected to physical abuse, the victim escaped and was eventually repatriated to Bangladesh. This led to the arrest of a suspect, Md. Salman Hossain, by the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the trafficking ring.
