Overview
Adient Automotive Argentina SRL has announced the permanent closure of its manufacturing plant in Pueblo Esther, Santa Fe, resulting in the dismissal of 70 employees. The facility, which was located near Rosario, specialized in manufacturing seats for the Chevrolet Tracker assembled by General Motors in Alvear.
The company intends to transition from local manufacturing to operating as a direct importer, sourcing finished seats from its active production lines in Brazil. This strategic shift is attributed to economic advantages, including exchange rate conditions, a contraction in the domestic market, and the fact that importing has become more cost-effective than local production under current macroeconomic conditions.
The Smata union noted that the plant has undergone gradual structural reductions and staff cuts since 2019. At its peak, the facility employed 230 workers and also supplied components for Honda’s HRV model in Campana. The plant is scheduled to complete its final week of industrial activity shortly.
