The Aenaoon Metropolitan Park project at Faliro Bay has reached a major milestone with the official signing of the construction contract on September 2, 2026. This development, which is part of the second phase of the Faliro Bay redevelopment, is supported by 370 million euros in European Commission funding. The contract, valued at 241.554 million euros plus VAT, was secured by a consortium consisting of Terna, Metka, Iliochora, and Elemka. The final contract price reflects a 5.50% discount on the original auction budget. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that the agreement resolves a “decades-old issue,” describing the park as a design based on “New Bauhaus principles of sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion.” Spanning approximately 540 acres, to 650 acres (741 to 1,000 stremmata), the project aims to transform the coastal front into a “green lung” for the Attica Basin. The plan includes 250 acres of new greenery, with approximately 75% of the area covered in Mediterranean natural vegetation, including 4,000 trees and up to 210,000 plants and shrubs. Planned facilities include a 90-acre urban linear park, a multifunctional children’s sports center, swimming pools, and courts for basketball, squash, beach volleyball, and fencing. The site will also feature an open-air amphitheater, exhibition spaces, a summer cinema, and dining facilities, all designed to preserve the local wetland character while upgrading regional quality of life.
