Aerospace manufacturing growth in Romania

In late July 2026, German aerospace supplier Diehl Aviation inaugurated a new manufacturing facility near Craiova, Romania. The plant, covering 12,000 m² in the Craiova Business Park, began with about 75 skilled workers and plans to expand to roughly 500 as production scales up. It will produce water and waste tanks, cabin interior panels, and insulation materials for major aircraft manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Embraer, reinforcing Romania’s role in the European aerospace supply chain.

The opening was reported alongside a broader push by U.S. defence contractor Lockheed Martin to expand its European industrial footprint, adding new centres for missile and HIMARS system production and maintenance, including a partnership with Germany’s Rheinmetall for ATACMS tactical missiles. Together, these initiatives signal a coordinated effort to boost defence‑industry capacity and supply‑chain resilience across NATO, with Romania emerging as a key host for both commercial aerospace components and advanced missile production.
