Overview

During the AEW Redemption pay‑per‑view in Montreal on July 26, 2026, two backstage incidents attracted significant controversy. Mick Foley’s interview with the Women’s World Tag Team Champions, Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne and Lena Kross), turned awkward when the champions told him to “bow down.” Foley misheard the command as “bow wow” and responded by barking. The segment drew widespread social media backlash from fans who viewed it as disrespectful to Foley’s career. Foley later apologized on Instagram, explaining the misunderstanding and noting the segment was intended to build future challengers.

Simultaneously, a dispute arose regarding a tribute video intended for the pre-show to honor the Rougeau wrestling family. AEW rejected the video because it exceeded the allotted time and contained unlicensed music and footage, as well as AI-generated material—a technology AEW President Tony Khan is known to oppose. While the video featured a 1997 match involving Hulk Hogan, the footage was from an independent show rather than WWE, though ownership could not be verified quickly enough for the broadcast.

Reports from Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicated that Jacques Rougeau threw a backstage “tantrum” following the rejection and was warned by an official to calm down or face removal by security. While Rougeau has since denied a significant incident occurred and posted the video to his personal Facebook, he was met with boos from the Montreal crowd during his appearance.

Commercially, Redemption was projected to generate 115,000–125,000 buys, making it AEW's lowest-selling pay-per-view of 2026.
