Affordable youth housing initiatives in Elche

Overview

The Elche City Council has announced the ‘Casa Fácil 2’ plan, a large-scale initiative to construct 1,161 new protected housing units. The project aims to provide affordable rental options for residents up to the age of 35.

To implement the plan, the municipality intends to modify the urban planning status of six municipal plots to allow for residential use. Planned locations include areas near the Hospital del Vinalopó, which is projected to host 457 units, and Avenida de El Altet, which is expected to accommodate 427 units. Other sites include Travalón, the l’Aljub area, and the vicinity of the San José Market.

Mayor Pablo Ruz described the initiative as the largest public housing offering in the history of Elche. The project currently awaits the completion of necessary urbanistic procedures and planning modifications before construction can begin.
