Afreximbank regional expansion and fund growth
Overview
Afreximbank has undertaken organizational and financial expansions to support intra-African trade and industrialization.
In late August 2026, the bank announced several senior leadership appointments to strengthen regional operations. These include new directors for Southern Africa, Anglophone West Africa, and Eastern Africa, as well as a Group Managing Director of Client Relations and Regional Operations.
Following these leadership changes, the bank’s equity investment arm, the Africa Export Development Fund (AEDF), expanded its membership to 24 nations. Recent additions include Senegal and Liberia joining the founding agreement, alongside ratifications from Zimbabwe and Angola. The fund aims to address equity financing gaps in sectors such as logistics, energy, manufacturing, and strategic mineral processing.
