DStv and the broader African streaming market are undergoing significant structural changes to subscription models and pricing. Following the acquisition of MultiChoice by the French media group Canal+, DStv has initiated its largest package overhaul in 15 years. In South Africa, MultiChoice has simplified its lineup with new options such as a Stream Starter at R99, a Movies & Series package at R500, and a Premium Stream option at R799 on a 24-month contract. These shifts occur as DStv navigates the conclusion of its distribution deal with Warner Bros Discovery and faces rising competition from on-demand services. Disney+ has also updated its regional offerings by introducing a new Basic subscription tier priced at R49 per month, which replaces the previous mobile-only plan and allows access on TVs and laptops with a single concurrent stream and 720p resolution. In Kenya, restructuring involves moving from a six-package system to three monthly tiers, including a reduced Premium package. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, MultiChoice is refreshing DStv and GOtv offerings to provide more personalized viewing. As of September 17, 2026, the company is consolidating its movie offerings by replacing the four-channel M-Net Movies structure with three new channels: M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars, and M-Net Legends. To expand its content, DStv is also introducing SuperSport Kick-Off, a football-dedicated channel, and France 24 for international news. On October 8, 2026, MultiChoice Group, operating under Canal+, announced a major overhaul of its DStv satellite television service under the tagline “DStv Expect More.” The company intends to reinvent the platform to provide a “hyper-customized viewing experience” through a new suite of tailored packages. While specific channel lineups and localized pricing for the Liberian market have not yet been disclosed, the company describes the transformation as the “next evolution” for its service, with a focus on sports, movies, and series.
