Agricultural developments in Venezuela and Ecuador
Overview
In Venezuela, officials in Apure held public consultations for a draft law intended to promote and protect livestock activities. Following these legislative efforts, livestock associations in the region reported the theft of over 30 buffalo from the Hato Los Camorucos production unit. While some animals were reportedly recovered at the Fundo Gallo Rojo, associations have defended producer Julio Vargas against smear campaigns, noting that the Public Ministry is investigating those spreading false information.
In Ecuador, local governments and agencies have implemented various support programs for rural producers. In Manabí, an initiative was launched to support passion fruit production through a 25,000 USD investment providing seedlings and technical assistance to female farmers. Subsequently, in Catamayo, members of the La Vega Agricultural Producers Association completed specialized training in crop management and livestock farming through the Rural Extension Agency.
