Extreme heat and drought conditions in Germany have caused significant agricultural damage across different regions. By 2026, fruit harvests continue to face significant declines. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the apple harvest is projected to drop by 17.9% compared to the previous year. In the Enzkreis region, many trees produced little to no fruit, while in Leichlingen, farmer Tim Nies reported a yield of only 50 tons from a potential 150 tons, noting much fruit was small or damaged by scab. The Federal Statistical Office estimates the overall apple harvest is more than five percent below the ten-year average. Other declines include pear production (15.5%), sweet cherries (23.9%), and sour cherries (15.6%).

Additionally, the 2026 potato harvest in North Rhine-Westphalia is projected at 1.8 million tons, its lowest since 2018, and winter wheat is expected to decrease by 9.5%.
