Agricultural innovation and sustainability initiatives

Overview

Agricultural innovation and technological adaptation efforts are expanding in Spain and Chile. In Spain, the Asociación Agraria de Jóvenes Agricultores (ASAJA) and Expo AgriTech 2026 have launched the second edition of the Chaleco Agricultor awards. Described as the “Michelin stars of agriculture,” these awards recognize excellence in crop innovation, sustainability, and the application of technologies such as AI, robotics, and smart irrigation.

Simultaneously, new research initiatives are addressing climate and economic challenges. In Chile, the Center for Research for Agri-food Transformation (CITAGRO) was established through a partnership of several universities to focus on resilient crop varieties and regenerative practices. In Spain, the TECSOL-FRUT project is developing intelligent agrivoltaic solutions to combine renewable energy production with fruit crop protection, aiming to reduce thermal stress and water evaporation.
