AI development and infrastructure in Asia-Pacific

Developments in artificial intelligence across the Asia-Pacific region have focused on economic integration, workforce training, and infrastructure security.

In Hong Kong, officials and a Samoan delegation at the World Internet Conference discussed using AI to bolster Pacific economies, improve logistics, and enhance climate change disaster preparedness. Concurrently, Hong Kong’s Financial Secretary announced the ‘AI for All’ programme, a HK$50 million initiative designed to provide AI training to 50,000 workers and small to medium-sized enterprises.

In Southeast Asia, technological advancements have shifted toward AI agent infrastructure. At the Huawei Data Communication Innovation Summit in Bali, Huawei announced upgrades to its StarRiver AI network to support ‘secure and intelligent connectivity’ across Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, specifically targeting rising AI-driven cyberattacks. Additionally, at the ASEAN AI Summit in Vietnam, Minto Technology introduced its Wesome AI platform and established educational partnerships with Vietnamese universities to support the transition toward autonomous AI agents in the digital economy.
