Data centre operators in Malaysia and China are expanding infrastructure to meet rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. In Malaysia, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) secured up to $1.75 billion in green financing to develop the STT Johor campus at the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park. The facility is designed for a planned capacity of up to 166 megawatts of IT load to support cloud computing and high-performance computing. United Overseas Bank Malaysia served as the sole coordinator for the financing, with participation from OCBC Bank Malaysia, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, and CIMB Bank Malaysia. Bitdeer Technologies is also expanding significantly scaling its footprint in Malaysia Malaysian presence through its subsidiary, Bitdeer AI. The company has fully contracted the 9.5 MW capacity of its A102 liquid-cooled data centre through via five-year long-term offtake commitments. The facility, designed Designed for NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 deployments, the A102 facility is expected to generate over $800 million in revenue when it begins operations in the first quarter of 2027. To mitigate financial risk, Bitdeer aims AI has further expanded its Johor Bahru campus by securing a 65.1 MW AI cloud data center facility, known as A202. Expected to structure contracts so that prepayments from high-credit-quality customers cover more than 50% be operational by the third quarter of capital expenditures. The company targets a 2027, A202 will utilize NVIDIA’s GB300 NVL72 and Vera Rubin platforms. This expansion brings Bitdeer’s secured global AI-ready AI Cloud capacity of to approximately 206.5 MW, advancing toward its 350 MW by target for early 2028. Following this, the first quarter of 2028, supported by an company reported its active pipeline exceeding $2 for AI cloud capacity has grown to exceed $7 billion. CFO Michael G. Potter noted that demand for liquid-cooled, rack-scale AI cloud capacity for 2027 is currently “outpacing available supply.” In China, GDS Holdings doubled its 2026 sales target to 1 gigawatt following record bookings, including 263 megawatts in the second quarter. While the company reported a net profit of RMB 838 million for the April-June period, this was largely due to a valuation gain from its former offshore unit, DayOne, rather than its underlying operating business, which recorded a loss of approximately RMB 122.3 million.
