AI-driven digital fraud prevention in Asia
Overview
Authorities and organizations across Southeast Asia and East Asia are implementing new measures to combat the rise of sophisticated, AI-driven digital fraud.
In Sarawak, officials warned that scammers are using artificial intelligence to mimic the voices and images of family members to target elderly victims. In response, Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency launched a six-month pilot program using simulated, AI-enabled robocalls to help the public recognize social engineering and deepfake impersonation tactics.
Efforts to mitigate fraud have expanded to Taiwan and Hong Kong. In Taiwan, a partnership between TrendLife, 7-ELEVEN, and Yahoo Shopping introduced AI-driven fraud detection tools to combat e-commerce and logistics impersonation scams. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission has mandated a transition from One-Time Passwords to more secure Passkeys for internet brokers and virtual asset platforms to prevent interception risks.
