Anthropic released a threat intelligence report detailing a domestic political influence operation in Kenya. A single actor utilized Claude AI models to manufacture fake grassroots support by mass-producing political content designed to appear as organic public sentiment.

The operation included generating content to praise Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi regarding electricity tariff increases using specific hashtags like #PowerReliefKE. The actor also used the technology to push narratives suggesting the United Opposition coalition was fracturing ahead of the 2027 General Election, specifically targeting politicians Rigathi Gachagua and former president Uhuru Kenyatta. To conceal the coordinated nature of the campaign, the actor reportedly instructed the AI to generate batches of exactly 50 tweets at a time to mimic ordinary citizens.
