AI initiative for Ukrainian news publishers

Overview

OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and the Association of Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine have introduced an artificial intelligence initiative to assist independent Ukrainian news outlets facing economic and infrastructural challenges due to conflict.

The program includes two tracks: Newsroom AI, focusing on editorial projects, and Business Transformation, addressing commercial and operational workflows. Following a masterclass series in August 2026, the Newsroom AI Catalyst is scheduled to launch on September 17, 2026. This phase will provide individualized support to 10 selected news organizations, including OpenAI API credits to help manage the technical costs of developing newsroom-specific tools.
