The telecommunications industry is adapting to the rise of artificial intelligence, focusing on both infrastructure demands and operational integration.

Initial developments highlight how AI workloads are reshaping network planning. High-volume traffic between cloud providers and international networks has reversed traditional traffic flows, forcing operators to renegotiate interconnection capacity. There is an increasing emphasis on managing latency for agentic AI to ensure quality-of-experience, shifting the industry focus from providing raw infrastructure toward delivering guaranteed performance outcomes.

As the sector moves toward AI-native networks, the focus has expanded to using Agentic AI for autonomous network operations, such as capacity planning and incident resolution. However, experts have identified a “grounding problem,” noting that AI reasoning is limited by the accuracy of infrastructure data; outdated asset records can lead to incorrect operational decisions. To mitigate these risks and move toward large-scale deployment, the AI-Native Telco Accelerator (ANTA) is expanding its ecosystem, adding several new partners including Vodafone, Rakuten Symphony, and The Linux Foundation to facilitate research and best practices.
