Overview

The Ainslie Creek wildfire in British Columbia’s Fraser Canyon grew to an estimated 65,310 hectares by mid-August 2026. The fire advanced toward the Alexandra Tunnel and Highway 1, driven by intense activity and downslope winds. This prompted the closure of Highway 1 between Toll Road (Yale) and Aspen Road due to fire risks and debris.

To protect the historic Alexandra Lodge and the CN Rail mainline, specialized asset protection was deployed, including the use of CN Rail’s Poseidon firefighting train. Despite the fire passing perilously close to the site, the 130-year-old landmark survived. Following the immediate threat, fire crews transitioned to mopping up operations and conducting danger tree assessments near the lodge.
