Australian hard rock band Airbourne has released their sixth studio album, a self-titled record titled ‘Airbourne’. Released via Spinefarm Records on September 4, the album marks a seven-year gap since their 2019 release, Boneshaker.

The album was recorded primarily at Music Farm Studio near Byron Bay and Hothouse Studios in Melbourne. Production and mixing involved Brian Howes, Mike Fraser, and Zakk Cervini, with mastering by Ted Jensen. The band utilized historic equipment during sessions, including an original Neve console used by AC/DC and Malcolm Young’s eight-track Neve. Legendary producer Mutt Lange provided partial involvement on tracks such as ‘Here She Comes’ and ‘Who Put The Rhythm In You?’.

To accompany the release, the band launched an official music video for the track ‘Kid In A Candy Store’, which was co-written with former Johnny-Crash frontman Vick Wright. Other notable tracks include the lead single ‘Gutsy’, ‘Alive After Death (Last Plane Out)’, and ‘Christmas Bonus’. The new material maintains the band’s high-energy sound, drawing comparisons to classic influences like Motörhead and including a personal tribute to Lemmy Kilmister.

During the recording process, band members Joel and Ryan O’Keeffe, Justin Street, and Brett Tyrrell noted various challenges, including technical issues with vintage gear and severe weather. Drummer Ryan O’Keeffe described a tropical storm that caused a tree to fall near the band’s bus as being “like a hurricane,” noting the weather also influenced the track ‘Here She Comes’. In a recent feature, the O’Keeffe brothers visited Rough Trade East in London, where Ryan expressed an interest in film scores and the possibility of performing rock music for major film productions.
