Airtel Money confirms London Stock Exchange IPO plans
Overview
Airtel Africa has confirmed plans for its mobile financial services unit, Airtel Money, to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) and list ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange. The proposed listing is structured as a secondary offering involving the sale of existing shares held by current shareholders; consequently, no fresh capital will be raised by Airtel Money through the transaction.
Airtel Africa currently holds approximately 78 per cent of Airtel Money’s issued ordinary shares and intends to maintain a long-term strategic interest in the unit as an independently listed company. The group is seeking admission to the equity shares category of the Financial Conduct Authority’s official list.
Following previous adjustments to the IPO’s scale and valuation, the company is now targeting a valuation between $8 billion and $9 billion. The offering aims to raise approximately $800 million. CEO Ian Ferrao cited London’s “deep capital pools and investor enthusiasm for fintech” as primary reasons for selecting the UK market.
Airtel Money, which operates across 13 to 14 Sub-Saharan African countries, reported strong performance for the fiscal year ending March 2026, generating $1.355 billion in revenue and serving approximately 54.1 million customers. Trading is expected to begin in October, subject to regulatory approval and market conditions.
