AJ Styles professional wrestling retirement status

Overview

Following his retirement after a career-threatening loss to Gunther at the Royal Rumble, WWE superstar AJ Styles has indicated he remains open to a potential return to the ring. Speaking on Cody Rhodes’ podcast, ‘What Do You Wanna Talk About?’, Styles compared his stance to Michael Jordan, stating, ‘If I want to come back, I come back.’ He noted that while he is satisfied with his current retirement, he does not consider his career to be completely finished.

Supporting this possibility, TNA X-Division Champion Amazing Red observed that Styles continues to train and visit dojos. Red expressed interest in potentially convincing Styles to return to professional wrestling, noting the difficulty of leaving the sport and suggesting that a match could occur if the timing were right.
