Akwa Ibom Governor healthcare and governance recognition

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has received several regional and national awards for his administration’s focus on governance and healthcare.

In July 2026, the Governor was honored with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Health Insurance Development Award 2026’ for the rapid expansion of the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency. Additionally, at the 19th Security Watch Africa Conference in The Gambia, he was named ‘African Leader in People‑Centric Governance for 2025.’

By late August 2026, recognition for the Governor’s healthcare reforms continued through honors from nursing organizations. The Body of Heads of Nursing Services Department and Principals of Schools in Federal Health Institutions (BOHNAPFHI) cited his commitment to infrastructure via the ARISE Agenda, while the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) presented him with the ‘Nurse-Friendly Governor Award’ for investments in the nursing and midwifery workforce. Specific projects noted include the Ibom Medical City and the development of primary healthcare centers.
