Algerian transportation service updates

In August 2026, various transportation providers serving Algeria announced updates regarding routes, pricing, and schedules.

Initially, the Société nationale des transports ferroviaires (SNTF) established an international rail connection between Algeria and Tunisia, traveling from Annaba to Tunis via several stations. The service operates on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with border formalities conducted at the Souk Ahras and Ghardimaou stations.

In the aviation sector, Air Algérie introduced promotional fares for flights between France and Algeria, with one-way tickets starting from 98 euros for specific routes like Lyon-Constantine. The airline also announced an expansion of its international network, scheduled for September and October 2026, to include new routes from Algiers to Berlin, Conakry, Brazzaville, and Lagos/Abuja. Conversely, ITA Airways announced a reduction in its Rome-Algiers service for the 2026-2027 winter season, decreasing from twelve to ten weekly flights starting October 25, 2026.

In the maritime sector, the Italian company GNV launched discounts for ferry crossings between France and Algeria, offering up to 30% off on routes from Sète to Algiers and Béjaïa, alongside a new maritime link between Civitavecchia, Italy, and Annaba. Later in the month, Algérie Ferries reported several schedule modifications for Mediterranean maritime crossings affecting routes between Algiers and Marseille, and Oran and Alicante, Spain.

Domestically, the Crédit populaire d’Algérie (CPA) introduced a financing program to modernize the national bus fleet, offering to finance up to 90% of the cost for professionals replacing vehicles older than 25 years.
