Algerian water infrastructure and management modernization

Algeria is implementing several initiatives to modernize its water management and infrastructure. The national water utility, Algérienne des Eaux (ADE), launched a nationwide campaign titled “Connaître ton client” to update the personal data of 6.7 million customers. This effort aims to create a reliable database including national identification numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses to facilitate digital services and improve communication.

Parallel to these data updates, the Ministry of Water Resources is advancing physical and digital infrastructure projects. In Sidi Bel Abbès, a project to reinforce drinking water supply is 85% complete, utilizing water from desalination plants in Aïn Témouchent and Oran to provide 70,000 m³ of potable water daily to 17 communes.

To enhance maintenance and oversight, ADE has deployed a motorcycle brigade to detect leaks and illegal connections. Furthermore, the ministry is introducing a remote management system, or “télégestion,” beginning with a pilot program in Saïda. This digital transition is intended to enable real-time monitoring of reservoirs and distribution networks through predictive analysis and automated data collection.
