Alleged targeting of Taiwanese comedian Huang Yi-hao
Overview
Prosecutors in New Taipei City have indicted five individuals for an alleged plot to physically assault comedian Huang Yi-hao. The suspects are accused of accepting NT$450,000 from a mainland Chinese individual, identified as “K”, to “break arms and legs” of the performer to prevent his stage appearances.
Investigations indicate the group monitored Huang’s movements using a tracking device on his scooter during July and August. In September, the suspects reportedly attempted to simulate a traffic accident by swerving a vehicle into Huang while he was parked. Additionally, two other individuals face charges for allegedly vandalizing a Taipei comedy club with paint and human feces in May.
Huang, known for satirizing President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), described the situation as feeling “absurd than frightening.” Despite the incidents, he has affirmed his commitment to his creative work and intends to incorporate these experiences into future performances.
