Reports have emerged alleging that United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of an imminent, large-scale Hamas operation approximately ten days before the October 7, 2023, attacks. An investigation by Haaretz claims that during a 45-minute phone call in late September 2023, the UAE leader warned that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was planning a ‘major operation’ or ‘earthquake’ that could cause significant bloodshed, destabilize the region, and threaten the Abraham Accords. The report alleges that Netanyahu did not brief Israeli security officials—including the heads of the Shin Bet, Mossad, and the IDF—regarding this warning, instead asserting that Israel had the situation under control and suggesting Hamas activity would likely occur in the West Bank. Netanyahu’s office has categorically rejected these claims, calling them a ‘total lie’ and ‘absolute lies.’ The Prime Minister’s office stated that a review of communication logs showed no evidence of such a call and has instructed lawyers to file a defamation lawsuit against Haaretz and journalist Shlomi Eldar. In response to the allegations, Israeli opposition leaders have called for an urgent investigation into the Prime Minister’s handling of intelligence prior to the attacks.
