Allianz Asia expansion through acquisitions
Overview
In late July 2026 Allianz SE confirmed a $2.1 billion acquisition of HSBC Life Singapore, a life‑and‑health insurer owned by HSBC. The deal, subject to Monetary Authority of Singapore approval and slated to close in the first half of 2027, includes a 15‑year exclusive bancassurance arrangement that will keep HSBC branches selling Allianz’s protection, health, retirement and wealth products. Allianz’s CEO highlighted Singapore as the insurer’s Asia‑Pacific headquarters and a cornerstone of its global growth plan.
A week later, Allianz Global Investors announced an agreement to purchase UOB Asset Management for roughly $615 million. The transaction, also pending regulatory clearance, is expected to close in 2027 and will raise AllianzGI’s Asia‑Pacific assets under management to more than €170 billion. It adds about €28 billion of assets and grants the firm access to UOB’s retail network of over eight million clients across high‑growth markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.
Together, the two acquisitions illustrate a coordinated strategy to broaden Allianz’s insurance and asset‑management capabilities, deepen distribution reach, and cement Singapore as the hub for its expansion across Southeast Asia.
