Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir
Overview
The annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir has concluded after a 57-day period. The formal end of the event was marked by the arrival of the sacred ‘Chhari Mubarak’ at the Amarnath Cave temple, where devotees and sadhus performed traditional Vedic rituals.
This year’s pilgrimage saw more than 480,000 devotees visit the holy cave. While the journey faced a brief suspension on August 9 due to inclement weather and damaged routes, the event proceeded with significant security and rescue deployments, including the NDRF, CRPF, and various mountain rescue units, to manage the high-altitude terrain.
In conjunction with the broader pilgrimage, the Chota Amarnath Yatra also commenced in the Bandipora district. Starting from Kaloosa, pilgrims traveled through Arin Dardpora and Shamthan toward the Chota Amarnath Cave. Local authorities implemented tight security and medical facilities to support the procession, which organizers noted as a means to “revive traditions of communal harmony and brotherhood in the region.”
