A labor dispute has emerged in Italy regarding Amazon's decision to transfer logistics operations from Malpensa Airport to a site in Brescia-Montichiari. Initially, transport unions (CGIL, CISL, UIL, and UGL) reported that Amazon and its subcontractor, GDA, failed to attend a scheduled meeting to discuss the move, which is set for September 2026. Unions expressed concern that the relocation could jeopardize the jobs of approximately 196 workers currently employed at the Malpensa warehouse. Following the missed negotiations, the Prefect of Varese intervened by summoning Amazon to a meeting scheduled for August 12 to address the potential employment crisis. By September 2026, Amazon began ending its ten-year presence at Malpensa Airport's Terminal 2 to transfer flight-related activities to Brescia Montichiari Airport. This transition affects nearly 200 employees managed by the contractor Mle. During this period, the union Cub Trasporti criticized the working conditions maintained during Amazon's tenure at Malpensa. The union alleged a model dominated by precarious employment, claiming that approximately 80% of the workforce at the Terminal 2 warehouse consisted of temporary or seasonal contracts. Cub Trasporti argued that despite the sector's growth, the work was characterized by high turnover, part-time shifts, and on-call contracts, noting that many workers were never offered permanent positions.
