A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Amazon and its aviation partners following the fatal Boeing 767 cargo jet crash at Miami International Airport on September 6, 2026. The aircraft, an Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767-300 operated by contractor 21 Air LLC, was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran the runway by approximately 1,300 feet, striking a van and an SUV. The crash killed five members of an airport cleaning crew—Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C. Pineda, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo—and injured five others. In response to the accident, Amazon suspended its partnership with 21 Air and redirected shipments through other carriers. A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has identified an unstable landing as a primary factor. Investigators found the aircraft was traveling at more than 200 mph and was approximately 105 feet above the ground as it crossed the runway threshold, touching down nearly 3,750 feet past the start of the pavement. Black box data indicates the captain did not attempt to abort the landing until fewer than 1,000 feet of runway remained, and speed brakes or thrust reversers were not utilized. Additionally, the NTSB noted that an air traffic controller failed to provide required tailwind information to the flight before granting landing clearance, as the jet was not on the controller’s frequency when wind data was previously shared with another aircraft. New details from the NTSB indicate that while the first officer repeatedly warned the captain about the high speed, the captain did not provide a consistent verbal response. The full investigation is expected to take between one and two years. Legal action has been initiated by the widow of Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo and survivor Roosevelt Sebastián Perdomo Torres, alleging negligence and inadequate training.
