Amazonas food sector and security initiatives
Overview
Efforts to strengthen the food sector and security in the Amazonas region of Brazil have involved both private industry engagement and public social initiatives.
The Amazonas Association of Supermarkets (AMASE) participated in various industry events in São Paulo and Belém to introduce innovation, automation, and traceability to the regional food retail sector. AMASE President Junior Rezende noted that these participations allow the association to “compare regional challenges and implement tested solutions from other markets into the Amazonas food sector.”
Concurrently, local government and social programs have focused on agricultural support and food distribution. In Parintins, the Municipal Secretariat of Production and Supply (SEMPA) organized the signing of commitment terms for the 2026 Food Acquisition Program (PAA) with family farmers. Additionally, in Santarém, the Sesc Mesa Brasil program collected 10 tons of food during cultural events, which was distributed to institutions benefiting approximately 1,700 families in the Alter do Chão region.
