Amazonas sustainable development initiatives

Overview

The Prospera na Floresta project, led by the Amazon Sustainable Foundation (FAS), is implementing various sustainability initiatives across the Amazonas region in Brazil.

Initially, the project focused on community-based sustainable tourism by extending funding applications for ventures in several sustainable development reserves and environmental protection areas. The initiative aimed to support indigenous peoples, riverine communities, and quilombolas by providing seed capital for infrastructure and equipment, alongside technological solutions like satellite connectivity and off-grid photovoltaic systems.

Following these efforts, the project expanded its scope to support sustainable cocoa production in the Rio Madeira region, specifically within the municipalities of Manicoré and Novo Aripuanã. This component focuses on agroforestry, where cocoa is cultivated alongside native species. To assist local families facing environmental challenges such as droughts and flooding, the project has implemented training programs for approximately 80 producers to improve crop management and preserve traditional knowledge.
