FX confirmed that the thirteenth season of *American Horror Story* will debut on 24 September 2026, with a simultaneous Disney+ release in Brazil and streaming on Hulu in the United States. The season is billed as a franchise-wide crossover, likened by creator Ryan Murphy to the Marvel “Avengers” — an ensemble of legacy actors uniting against a new, overarching threat. Murphy first announced the crossover during an Entertainment Tonight interview at the world premiere of his teen drama *The Shards* on 27 May. He later reiterated the details in an August 6 interview, describing the 13-episode run as a “tribute” to the series and confirming the return of Jessica Lange (in all four of her iconic roles), Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman and newcomer Paul Anthony Kelly, among others. Ariana Grande was originally slated to appear but withdrew due to a world-tour scheduling conflict; Murphy said he hopes to bring her back in a future season. He also confirmed he is seriously considering a *Glee* reboot and that season 14 and a Lizzie Borden story remain in development within his Monster franchise. On 12 August, FX and 20th Television released a teaser for the season, which Murphy has also referred to as a “greatest hits” installment. New details regarding the cast reveal that Sarah Paulson will play six roles and Evan Peters will portray five characters. Jessica Lange reportedly agreed to her return on the condition that she receives a musical number. The teaser also highlighted the return of specific characters, including Constance Langdon, Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Marie Laveau, and Twisty the Clown. Recent updates indicate that a character played by Joey Pollari will serve as the narrative link between the various stories and villains.
