Anaconda discovery in Lower Bavaria

Overview

A two-meter-long anaconda was discovered by a woman walking on the banks of the Danube in the Straubing-Bogen district of Lower Bavaria, near the towns of Kirchroth and Oberzeitldorn.

Police and the Kirchroth Volunteer Fire Department responded to the sighting. Responders used improvised equipment, including heavy leather gloves and a laundry box used as a temporary terrarium, to safely capture the reptile. While experts identified the Amazonian species as one that can be “potentially aggressive and biting,” the animal reportedly remained calm during the intervention.

The snake has been transferred to a reptile rescue station in Munich for veterinary examination and quarantine. Authorities believe the animal likely escaped from captivity rather than being intentionally released. Because keeping an anaconda in Bavaria is subject to strict legal regulations, officials are seeking information regarding the snake’s origin or owner and have requested that anyone with information contact the police or the Munich shelter.
