Animal welfare and community events in Italy

Overview

Various animal-focused community events and celebrations have taken place across Italy.

In late September, Udine and Ballabio hosted events centered on animal welfare and education. Udine’s ‘Amici di Zampa’ included seminars on reporting mistreatment and veterinary first aid sessions. In Ballabio, the ‘Zampettiamo a Ballabio’ event provided canine consultancy and information on adoption, supported by local officials who equipped police with microchip readers to assist lost pets.

In early October, celebrations in honor of Saint Francis were held in Trieste and Piazzola sul Brenta. The Trieste Animal Festival featured canine unit demonstrations and a public blessing of animals, including a commendation for Lamù, a search-and-rescue dog from the National Fire Corps being honored upon retirement. In Piazzola sul Brenta, the San Francesco Presina shelter hosted a Mass, animal blessings, and the inauguration of a ‘Rainbow Bridge’ memorial for deceased dogs.
